Mumbai: In a very unfortunate turn of events, concerts of Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali were called off by the organisers due to constant pressure and threats fromThe Shiv Sena, a ruling party in collision with BJP.
The concert was to be organised on 9th of October, as a tribute to Indian Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh on his fourth death anniversary.
The Shiv Sena defended their stance by saying that cultural exchange with Pakistan cannot go hand in hand with the act of terrorism in which our soldiers are getting killed. The Shiv Sena said that while tensions remained at the Indo-Pak border, such a concert couldn’t be allowed. The concert was eventually cancelled under increased pressure from the Sena.
Social media sharply reacted to this act, pointing that politics and music should keep apart. People from the music fraternity also condemned this act and said that in fact, it is India’s loss if greats like Ghulam Ali are not allowed to perform in India.
This has also attracted the attention of various political parties like AAP and TMC who have invited Ghulam Ali to perform in their state instead. Even Maharastra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that this concert should not have been stopped and has offered full protection to him.
When asked from Mr Ghulam Ali himself about this whole incident he said that he was hurt by this but is still very hopeful of performing in India as he has always got love and support here.
In a tweet AAP leader and CM of New Delhi, Mr Arvind Kejriwal has informed that Ghulam Ali will perform in Delhi in December this year.
